Black Policy Day is an annual event organized by Dr. Shanequa Smith and the WV Black Voter Initiative / Impact WV that brings together advocates, policymakers, and community members around issues affecting Black West Virginians. I’ve been covering it since 2022 — event video, interviews, promotional content, photography, and social media assets.
The work has evolved each year. What started as live stream coverage with Crystal Good has expanded into a full production cycle — pre-event promo videos, day-of multi-camera coverage, post-event interview compilations, and social media clips with subtitles for broader reach. The 2026 promo video below is a good example of where the production quality has landed.
I also cover related events under the same umbrella — Black Policy Breakfast, Young Gifted Black, and sessions at the Governor’s Conference. Each event has its own energy and audience, so the approach shifts accordingly, but the throughline is always the same: capture the substance of what’s being said and make it accessible to people who weren’t in the room.
